Size of the thermal source in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

چکیده
The dependence of the size of the thermal source on the centrality in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions is studied. The interaction region consists of a well defined thermalized core, and of an outer mantle where the production scales with the number of participants. The thermal source builds up in the region with the largest density of participants in the transverse plane. Particle production in the thermalized core is enhanced in comparison to the wounded nucleon model. The change of the degree of strangeness saturation with centrality is also discussed. We perform an estimate of high p⊥ jet absorption finding that an increase of the absorption in the thermal core is compatible with the data.

Hadron production in heavy relativistic systems
We investigate particle production in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC energies as function of incident energy, and centrality in a three-sources Relativistic Diffusion Model. Pseudorapidity distributions of produced charged hadrons in Au + Au and Cu + Cu collisions at √ sNN = 19.6 GeV, 62.4 GeV, 130 GeV and 200 GeV show an almost equilibrated midrapidity source that tends to increase in size towar...
متن کاملLambda-proton correlations in relativistic heavy ion collisions
The prospect of using Λp correlations to extract source sizes in relativistic heavy ion collisions is investigated. It is found that the strong interaction induces a large peak in the correlation function that provides more sensitive source size measurements than pp correlations under some circumstances. The prospect of using Λp correlations to measure the time lag between lambda and proton emi...

By studying the properties of matter during heavy-ion collisions, a better understanding of the Quark-Gluon plasma is possible. One of the main areas of this study is the calculation of the magnetic field, particularly how the values of conductivity affects this field and how the field strength changes with proper time. In matching the theoretical calculations with results obtained in lab, two diffe...
متن کاملEnergy and System-size Dependence of Two-particle Azimuthal Correlations of High-pT Charged Hadrons at the CERN SPS
Angular correlations of high-pT hadrons can serve as a probe of interactions of partons with the dense medium produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions but other sources of such correlations exist which can be non-negligible SPS energies. In an attempt to determine the primary source, NA49 has performed an energy and system-size scan of two-particle azimuthal correlations in central Pb+Pb, S...
